Two studies show that the apoptosis-inducing protein TRAIL also induces release of cytokines that promote tumor growth. TRAIL triggers formation of a signaling complex that activates NF-B. Loss of one component of the signaling complex, the adaptor protein FADD, reduces the number of lung tumors in mice.
