Relationship between Efficacy Outcomes and Weight Gain during Treatment of Advanced, Nonsquamous, Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients

Weight gain was compared to outcomes in patients with advanced nonsquamous NSCLC using pooled data from three phase III trials. Weight gain of >5% occurred after initiation of platinum-based chemotherapy in 18% of patients. This subgroup exhibited a positive correlation between weight gain and improved survival (p<0.001). Weight gain during treatment may be an early indicator of clinical benefit.
