McQuade and colleagues1 reported a significant association between high body-mass index (BMI) and outcomes in patients with metastatic melanoma treated with targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or chemotherapy in male patients. The findings remained statistically significant after being adjusted for multiple factors that could confound the interpretation. The observation was in strong contrast with current knowledge of the biology of melanoma and, as the authors described, warranted insightful investigation for explanation.
