Clinical use of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) and dual-source computed tomography (DSCT) has been well established for more than a decade. Improved software and decreased postprocessing time have increased the advantages and availability of DECT and DSCT imaging. In this article, we will provide a practical guide for implementation of DECT and DSCT in clinical practice and discuss automated processing and selection of CT protocols in neurologic, cardiothoracic, vascular, body, and musculoskeletal...
Along with the rest of the world, the United States is inundated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The medical services in the country have been severely affected. The pandemic poses extraordinary challenges to academic institutions including radiology residency and fellowship programs. Herein, we delineate major difficulties faced by our radiology training program and mitigating countermeasures. The primary objective is to discuss the changes in our radiology training programs due to COVID-19 to allow for...
Background The clinical relevance and anatomic characteristics of intracavitary coronary arteries coursing within the right ventricle (RV) are largely unknown. Objectives The aim of our study was to assess the clinical and computed tomographic characteristics of patients diagnosed with intracavitary coronary arteries coursing within RV (intra-RV coronaries). Methods Electronic records from a single high-volume cardiac center were retrospectively screened for the presence of intra-RV...
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has necessitated rapid response plans to minimize risks of infection in the workforce while ensuring maintenance of essential functions of radiology departments. Plan adoption is, however, challenged by the need to coordinate with institutional efforts, a rapidly expanding number of patients, and the diversity of clinical and administrative functions in the department. Here, we describe the implementation of a response plan in an academic radiology...

Methods We analyzed 88 patients with dental metals retrospectively in study 1, and 74 patients prospectively in study 2. Patients were classified: metal I with dental metals in 1 region, metal II in 2 regions, and metal III in 3 regions. Patients underwent...
Purpose To evaluate tamoxifen-related endometrial changes in premenopausal female patients with diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI). Methods This prospective study was performed on 71 premenopausal female patients (mean age, 41 years) who were receiving tamoxifen therapy. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of the endometrial plate were calculated...
Purpose This study aimed to compare the feasibility, safety, diagnostic accuracy, and radiation dose between computed tomography (CT) fluoroscopy (CTF)–guided and conventional CT (CCT)–guided lung biopsy. Methods Relevant articles up until February 2020 were identified within the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Diagnostic accuracy rate, pneumothorax, and pneumothorax requiring chest tube served as primary end points, with technical success, hemoptysis, operative time, and...
Purpose To evaluate the agreement and correlation between attenuation values and vascular calcification volume for intra-abdominal structures from true noncontrast (TNC) images and those from virtual noncontrast (VNC) images obtained by dual-source dual-energy computed tomography (CT) using a quadriphasic dynamic protocol. Methods Seventy-six patients who underwent quadriphasic abdominal CT were retrospectively reviewed. An arterial, portal venous, and 5-minute delayed phase postcontrast...
Background In cardiac tamponade, coronary sinus (CS) as an intrapericardial structure can be easily compressed, whereas inferior vena cava (IVC) dilates. This inverse relationship may augment their roles in the evaluation of tamponade imaging. Aim We assessed the usefulness of computerized tomographic measures of CS diameter and also CS/IVC ratio to predict tamponade in clinically stable patients with large pericardial effusion. Methods Sixty-six clinically stable patients who had large...
Objectives Rectosigmoid involvement by endometriosis causes intestinal symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, and dyschezia. A precise diagnosis about the presence, location, and extent of bowel implants is required to plan the most appropriate treatment. The aim of the study was to compare the accuracy of magnetic resonance with distension of the rectosigmoid (MR-e) with computed colonography (CTC) for diagnosing rectosigmoid endometriosis. Methods This study was based on the retrospective...

Objectives The aim of this study was to develop a radiomics model for a differential diagnosis of focal-type autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Methods A total of 96 patients, 45 with AIP and 51 with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, were retrospectively evaluated. All patients underwent pretreatment abdominal computed tomography imaging acquired at noncontrast, arterial, and venous phases. Furthermore, 1160 radiomics features were extracted from each phasic...
In this study, the percent of wormian bones in congenital aural atresia group was higher than healthy group, when tested by the Fisher exact test, there appeared to be no significant statistical difference. However, in congenital aural atresia surgery, surgical manipulation can dislodge these bones causing injury to the surrounding structures. Therefore, the radiologists should report the presence of wormian bones in the peritemporal area.
We evaluated an alternative diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) acquisition for prostate magnetic resonance imaging of men with pelvic hardware, using radial k-space sampling (MultiVane [MV]), short-tau inversion-recovery (STIR) fat suppression, and split acquisition of turbo spin-echo signals. The optimized STIR-MV-DWI reduced metal-associated artifacts and image distortion, and aided in visualization of the prostate and lesions. The STIR-MV-DWI can be a valuable adjunct in prostate magnetic resonance...
Crystalloids are occasionally encountered on fine needle aspiration of cystic parotid lesions. This goal of this study was to retrospectively characterize the MRI features of a series benign crystalloid-containing parotid cysts. A total of 4 patients with fine needle aspiration findings of crystalloids and available parotid MRI scans were identified. Review of the imaging revealed that the cystic lesions contain layering material that corresponds to crystals.
The aim of this work was to review Neck Imaging Reporting and Data System (NI-RADS) that was designed for reporting and surveillance of head and neck cancer after therapy and their subsequent management. The categories of NI-RADS can be designated as belonging in 1 of the 4 categories: negative; low suspicion; high suspicion; and definite recurrence. Lexicon of NI-RADS-1 shows nonmass-like distortion of soft tissues, NI-RADS-2 lesions divided into mucosal (2A) versus deep (2B) abnormalities, NI-RADS-3...
Objective The objective of this study was to assess the correlation between dual-energy computed tomography quantitative parameters and hemodynamics in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Methods Dual-energy computed tomography of 52 chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients were evaluated retrospectively. The mean lung perfused blood volume (lung PBV) and the mean pulmonary artery (PA) enhancement measured at pulmonary parenchymal phase were compared...
Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of gray matter volume (GMV) alteration patterns between hemodialysis with restless legs syndrome (HD-RLS) and hemodialysis without restless legs syndrome (HD-nRLS) patients using voxel-based morphometry.
