Early detection of cervical lymph node metastasis (CLNM) from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity remains challenging. This prospective study was performed to evaluate the ability of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to detect CLNM from oral cavity SCC. Additionally, its diagnostic value was compared with that of contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT). Forty-eight consecutive patients with SCC of the oral cavity were enrolled. All subjects were examined preoperatively with both...
This study aimed to examine the relationships between subjective taste sensations and electrogustometry (EGM) findings in patients with taste disturbances according to the presence of burning mouth (BM) symptoms. Forty-six patients were included and asked to complete a questionnaire that contained questions on subjective taste sensations for the four basic taste qualities and the pattern of taste disorders such as ageusia, hypogeusia and dysgeusia. EGM was performed to measure detection thresholds.
Many clinical guidelines for investigating lymphomas advise that surgical excision biopsy (SEB) should be performed for a confident diagnosis. It is increasingly recognized in clinical practice that ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy (USCNB) is a reliable diagnostic technique. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic efficacy of USCNB in head and neck lymphoma.A retrospective analysis of all diagnosed head and neck lymphomas between 2013 and 2018 was performed. Patient records, radiology and histopathology...
Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) rarely metastasizes to the suprahyoid retropharyngeal lymph nodes (SRPLNs). Studies on SRPLN metastasis from PTC and a description of the dissection of the SRPLNs via the transcervical approach are rare in the literature. In this study, the cases of six patients diagnosed with PTC with SRPLN metastasis, who underwent dissection of the SRPLNs between 2001 and 2017, were reviewed retrospectively. A transcervical approach was applied for exposure and dissection of the...
